* Back in the day, genres like R&B, Hip-Hop, Dance, and house were sort-of undefined still, so what you would think of as R&B or hip-Hop today wasn't so in the 90s.
* Mixing and blending of old + new was in, which is why these styles were called "the poor man's musical arts". They would remix old records & tapes (whatever was available for cheap or free), and there was a resurgence of Hippie themes mixed with ethnic urban culture & technology world wide.
