or November. Various modern to contemporary jazz pieces that seem to fit the title. With a few surprises, and surprising non-surprises.

The title makes up in specificity what it lacks in evocative poesy. I've tried to avoid most of the obvious tracks (classics, either by virtue of being classics, or by virtue of being played an awful lot.) What remains is, I hope, some sense of the continuing magic of Blue Note Records during its finest phase.

The same as the first part, only completely different. Again, I'm largely but not entirely trying to skirt the obvious. Contingently essential. Includes Bobby Hutcherson, Eric Dolphy, and Andrew Hill.

Jazz noir: Soft, melancholy, and nocturnal -- with a few surprises to preserve my hip cred, and another few to undermine it. Insomia music, go-to-bed music, last call for drinks music, lost love music, &c.

Seventeen tracks including music by Eric Dolphy, Buddy Collette, and Bobby Jaspar. One classical track exactly where it's needed.

These tracks I dedicate to my expat friends at blip.fm, where the web admins took away upload privileges, thus many of us have moved to 8tracks. Not as social here, but without good music, social is without essential attraction :)) Fifteen tracks including music by Avishai Cohen, Bobo Stenson Trio, and Brad Mehldau.

This means that I have not listened to them for a very long time. No other theme was intended, but I am open to creative suggestions. Nine tracks including music by Charlie Rouse, Dexter Gordon, and Don Ellis Orchestra.

This is (some of) what I listened to as the sun went down. The plan, such as it is, emerged but gradually. Ten tracks, and the artists represented include Omar Sosa, Stefano Bollani, and Ralph Towner.
