The clock at City Hall strikes 3 o'clock and around the corner, a milk-starved cat fleet-foots across an empty parking lot. The wet tarmac shimmers. Lovers lean into each other, pausing underneath the streetlamp to touch lips. Someone is dreaming of lions and lambs and the dark sky covers the streets like a flannel blanket. This is the new frontier. This is the night.

Back when I was in college radio, we were asked to televise our shows over the campus' closed-circuit television. One day, I had the idea to run a show full of instrumentals similar to those you heard when your favorite shows experienced "technical difficulties" - the joke being that I would be broadcasting live, but with the camera off, making announcements that I was "experiencing technical difficulties". I'd like to think this is what I would have sounded like.
