Voices, bells, voices: as in Jonathan Harvey's Mortuos Plango, Vivo Voco (I lament the dead, I call the living), the voice and the bell signify death and life respectively. In this case, the voice heralds the coming of spring, with the bell of winter pulling back unsuccessfully, eventually giving way to the new season.
