The soundtrack to the movie Cooley High was all about Motown, but there was a whole lot of soul on other labels that year, as well. 1964 heard rhythm 'n' blues and pop pieces from not only groups like The Supremes but also people like Rufus Thomas and James Brown. Out of sight? No more!

This mix is chock full of those songs that always seems to come on at social gatherings (especially those moments when everyone is a tad buzzed) and everyone instinctively knows the words to and sings to at the top of their voices. And if you don't know the words you pretend to sing along, but it's just awkward and clearly isn't as fun. To avoid those types of moments (we all have em' it's fine) listen to this track on repeat.
