Songs That Put the Beef in Your Heart

In a twisted, backward way, this is a tribute album to the late Captain Beefheart: two songs are by him, one (by the Black Keys) is a cover, some are by artists he influenced, like The Minutemen and P.J. Harvey, and others are by people who had nothing to do with him at all, but just share his vibe. These songs all have that sweaty guitar backwoods wailing holy man funk to them. They drink at the same bar. They could all use a hot shower.

The various members of the Neville family have been all over the New Orleans music scene for the last five decades. Here are just a few of the many fine records they have been involved in, including music by The Hawketts, The Meters, and The Wild Tchoupitoulas, as well as backing locals and visitors to the Crescent City.
