Decade

Notes

The first decade you are taught. The second decade though,is the greatest journey you can go through. You'll have cried over friends, boyfriends, people you love will no longer be with you. You'll skip school, find a boyfriend, get drunk. You'll have graduated, travelled, lived. That second decade will be like no other, because it will have been the first time you did everything for you. Looking back on that decade, think of all your firsts, because tonight, I know I've looked back on all of mine.

*FULL VERSION

The first decade you are taught. How to ride a bike, math, your manners. Things are explained to you, everything is new.
The second decade though, you experience, you live. You start to see the world through no one else's view point but your own. You develop your own sense of self, who you are, what kind of person you are.
The second ten years are the greatest journey you can go through. You make friends who will leave and who will stay. You'll sneak out of the house, go to your first party, graduate middle school. You'll go on vacation and birthdays will come every year. Summers are spent travelling, with friends, biking around your neighborhood. Winters are spent drinking cocoa and studying for those high school exams.
You'll have cried over friends, boyfriends, people you love will no longer be with you. In the same token people will come into your life for the better or for the worse, either way they'll have taught you a lesson.
You'll have skipped school, found a boyfriend, gotten drunk, and even done things you may come to be ashamed of by the middle of the second decade. Closer to the end, you'll have graduated, travelled, you'll even have started work or university.
That second decade will be like no other, because it will have been the first time you do everything for you. You find you.
Looking back on that decade, think of all your firsts, because tonight, I know I've looked back on all of mine.
