Kadence watches Kin and his friends leave through a magical portal, feeling every bit as though she's a child that's been left behind somewhere unfamiliar. Her throat closes and she almost yells after him--well after he's gone mind you--but she's distracted by the fist slamming hard into the side of her face. She hits the ground with a cough, turning her eyes up to the burning gaze of her commander.

"Why can't you just try to belong?" Dias snarls, and Kadence finds herself wondering the same.
