Refused is a hardcore band originating from Umeå, Sweden, formed in 1991. The band's final lineup comprised its founding members, vocalist Dennis Lyxzén and drummer David Sandström, as well as guitarists Kristofer Steen and Jon Brännström. Their lyrics were often of a non-conformist and politically far-left nature. The band released five EPs and three albums before initially splitting up in 1998. Kerrang! placed The Shape of Punk to Come at #13 on their 50 Most Important Albums Of All Time list.

Steve Aoki, the DJ/Producer, grew up in Newport Beach, CA, and went to college at UCSB. In his early 20s, he founded his own label, Dim Mak Records, in 1996. The label has released music by other electro house artists such as Datsik, Infected Mushroom, Dada Life, Zeds Dead, his own collaboration with Tiesto, MSTRKRFT, The Bloody Beetroots, Felix Cartal and Mustard Pimp, as well as by Bloc Party, Battles, The Kills, The Gossip, Klaxons, Scanners, Whitey, and Mystery Jets to name a few. The label has released over 250 records so far.

The Bloody Beetroots are an electro and dance music duo from Bassano del Grappa, Vicenza, Italy. Formed in late 2006 by Sir Bob Cornelius Rifo, an international indie producer, and DJ tommy tea. Often compared with French duo Justice and Italian DJ duo Crookers, the duo wear Grendel masks while performing. The duo had a short tour of the United States in early 2008, alongside label-mate Steve Aoki.
