Alan Lomax' almost naked field recordings not only lead to the discovery of some big names in blues (Leadbelly e.g.) and made the world familiar with "prison songs" (like in the movie "O Brother, were art thou?"). He also inspired producers for some unique re-worked versions. Think Moby and Little Axe for example, but also Chris Becker. This compilation combines original recordings with some great reworkings in an (almost) back-to-back manner. If you would ask me, great stuff ... enjoy ;-)

Thank for this mix, I found & bought Chris Becker's Saints & Devils & A Yankee Clipper In Congo Square.
Great mix man, loved this. Thanks for taking me way back to the beginning.
