Genre-switching covers are a tricky thing. Most of them get by on novelty and have little value ("It's Lady Gaga played on a flugelhorn! Wow!"), but the best ones take a song in an bizarre, unexpected direction, and yet it somehow works. My only rule: no ironic nasally white people doing acoustic covers of gangsta rap. It occasionally goes well, but for every Ben Folds there are at least three Dynamite Hacks. It really shouldn't be encouraged.
