The Rhythm in question is a high speed lope with ringing guitars shot through with joyful melancholy. Usually nestled just between rock and country. It was born from the harder attitudes of folk and filtered down through the sixties by way of Dylan, The Birds et al. REM gave it its truest form and it persists today in pockets of worn faded denim, stale beer smell, and elegant, eloquent rock and roll.
