Road Trippin' 10/10/11 - 10/16/11

Each week I make a 7 hour drive to visit my friends for the weekend along with my other driving during the week I rack up over 24 hours of listening to music in my car.

These are 10 songs that really stuck out above the other tracks I listened to during the week. I try to listen to as much new music as possible to liven up my driving, but I still revisit older albums.

Ten tracks including music by Asobi Seksu, Boris, and Broken Social Scene.

Songs in the mix:

Snowman - A Vanishing Act
Never going to forget the moment this song came on.
It was really late at night and I just came up over a hill heading towards a windmill farm.
The only thing you could see in the night was the red lights on the windmills blinking in unison all around.
The moon was not quite full, but it was a dark reddish orange color.
This whole scene with some of the eeriest music I've heard just gave me chills for the entire ride.

M83 - Raconte-Moi Une Histoire
This is song is not one of the clear standout tracks off of M83's new album like Midnight City or the Intro (featuring Zola Jesus).
But the spoken word of the little girl stuck with me.
Made me feel pretty wistful thinking back to how the only thing that mattered when I was a kid was just having people to play with.
I just want to turn into a frog and jump all the time and be our whole group of friends and group of frogs.

The Bug - Poison Dart
This song made me feel like I was in some kind of post-apocolyptic world like something out of a Mad Max movie.
The hollow drums that just hit away behind the full on bass assault really set a nice atmosphere and put me on edge.

Broken Social Scene - Ibi Dreams of Pavement(A Better Day)
I was crossing the bridge over the Mississippi River just as the sun was setting.
This song just came on and the whole anthemic build of this song was something out of a movie.
I couldn't help but just roll down the windows and turn this song up louder.

Asobi Seksu - It's Too Late
Great slowburner of a song. I feel like listening to this song is akin to waiting for a bomb to go off.
It's a long burning fuse for one hell of a bomb though.
The slow build to the squelching middle and endsection of this song is a major payoff.
The artist is singing about presumably a failed relationship.
And the middle and end section of the song feel like the frustration of it all coming out in a blast.

Boris - Flare
This brought me back to being highschool again. Where the only thing a song needed to be cool for me was to have a sweet guitar solo.
Well years later and guess what? I still really dig sweet guitar solos. I enjoyed the intro of the song with the siren going off seeming to warn about the imminent burst of energy.

Emeralds - Candy Shoppe
A constant shift of what is leading this track.
It's easy to get lost in this album and this first track off of it is a great lead in.

Galaxie 500 - Fourth of July
"Maybe I should just change my style/ But I feel alright when you smile."

Television - Elevation
The interplay of all the instrumentation in this track is immense. Remember what I said about guitar solos and how much I love them? This song also sports one of my favorite solos.

Burial X Massive Attack - 4 Walls
I just want more of this collaboration. The vocals in the middle haunt me.
