Across the Burning Sands

From Saharan Africa (Mali in particular) comes a peculiar blend of guitar music that shares DNA with American blues, rock and roll, and traditional North African music. Created mainly by the nomadic tribes of the Sahara, the style has been under fire for most of its existence from local Islamic groups, which has led to music bans, arrests, and even the kidnapping of musicians, causing many of the bands to flee their homelands. Nevertheless, the new diaspora continues to share their music with increasing audiences around the world.
