Notes

From the 1970s Bronx came the origination of hip hop and rap - musical genres with roots connected to African storytellers called griots. Stemming from such powerful influence, these music forms became an escape from poor living conditions and a way to discuss important social issues.

In the very same vein, rap and hip hop are a way for those in the Native community to break free from gang violence, drugs and alcoholism, and the continued genocide of our people. These artists use their platform for important messages ranging from rez life to the destruction of our Earth, and even the murders of our people by those in positions of authority.

Contains music by Frank Waln, Nataanii Means, Wab Kinew, and more!
