RYM Ultimate Box Set > Lo-Fi

Lo-Fi (low fidelity) is defined by music in which the sound isn't up to regular standards. While this is often due to artists not having the necessary equipment, many artists actually intentionally keep their sound lo-fi(Guided by Voices). This is to keep a "raw" sound, on which many artists have built their careers.

Even though lo-fi recordings have been around for ages, the concept didn't bloom until the late 80's. The term "lo-fi" originally got its name from DJ William Berger who dedicated a segment on the radio on home recorded music using that exact term.
