Notes
Olive Oatman travelled with her family out West in 1851. Yavapais Indians massacred her family, taking Olive and her sister Mary Ann captive. They were later sold them to the Mojave Indians. Years later she was returned and cried bitterly at losing her Mojave family. She lived out her life bearing a chin tattoo they bestowed upon members of the tribe. She always spoke of them with the utmost love and kindness.
She never returned to the desert.
