Yes, the proudness and the grit is always right under the skin in those tender performances... About the song: I just bumped into the this little known Etta James song on one of hér compilation CD's. It should be filed under "should-have-been-a-classic"...

I also like the way you chose to emphasize the tender melodies, though often backed by a tough undercurrent of grit. It really showcases the more subtle nuances of Etta James' voice in particular. Not the first thing that would have come to my mind when I thought of her - I loved that.
