System Ready

A playlist of video game tunes, all very dear to me.

  • I Am Shodan (System Shock 2) by Renzu
  • Intro (OST Left 4 Dead 2) by Valve Studio Orchestra
Just plain awesome! This is taken from the intro of Left 4 Dead 2. When watching the intro you can also hear one of the characters say: "I did not come this far to die now!" matching the songs rythm. I always considered this the lyrics of the song. If you don't know it yet you should check out the Left 4 Dead 2 intro.
  • Downstream by Shira Kammen
This track is just beautiful and fits the game so well. I'd like to believe that all of the tracks I picked work even if you don't know the games but this one still sticks out. It's is one of the most beautiful compositions I ever heard. Not just among video game songs.
  • Heal by 大島ミチル
Heal is played whenever you sit down on one of these benches that allow you to save the game in Ico. Healing is what it does. Sometimes when I am feeling nervous or just sad I listen to this track on repeat and it helps.
  • Broken Sword by OST
"Paris in the fall." Or as I recall it: "Paris im Herbst." I have never been to Paris but whenever I listen to this track it feels like I have been there as a child. It's like a precious memory which, sadly, is not real. Then again... clowns do kinda freak me out. Just like exploding cafes.
  • Neverwinter Nights by fazz0
This is also connected to a lot of memories. I remember playing this with a friend of mine over and over again. Still one of my favourite games. I think when you install the Add-Ons the main menu theme is actually replaced by a different, less awesome track, which makes this one even more special. Still my favourite Jeremy Soule track. (You heard right, Morrowind!)
  • Ezio's Theme by Assassin's Creed
Not much needs to be said about this one. Even though there are quite a few Assassin's Creed games by now this is still THE Assassin's Creed Theme to me.
  • Tomb Raider by Tomb Raider Theme
Everyone knows this game. I have to admit... I am not that big a fang of Tomb Raider. The only part that I actually liked enough to finish it was the reboot from 2013. The Tomb Raider franchise is remembered for a lot of things but I never really heard anyone say: "Hey! Remember the menu theme from Tomb Raider? That was awesome!" So in case you never really listened to it, here it is.
  • Everybody Lies (Deus-Ex Soundtrack) by Michael McCann
Keeping the title in mind this track contains something menacing. I can't really describe it but it's there. "Everbody lies". That's a statement which I feel is reflected in the way the song builds up to the amazing climax. I don't remember when this one was played in the game but whenever I hear the ending I see the main character leaving the construct of lies behind him and facing whatever awaits him on the other side.
  • Hill by Silent
This is a tough one. I have a hard time explaining my relationship to the Silent Hill series. A year ago I didn't really care about those games. Never played them, never really wanted to. Then I met someone who sparked interest in those games and I played Silent Hill 1, 2 and 3 back to back. I have to say that playing those games was one of the most intense gaming experiences I ever had. When I revisited this track for this playlist I was a little overwhelmed by the emotions that came along with it.
  • 9. The Songbird by Aigis20
  • Quake Main Theme by Nine Inch Nails
This track marks, along with the Silent Hill theme, the end of the first part of my playlist. I thought it makes a good transition. Oh... and it's great by the way. The creator, Trent Reznor, is the head of my favourite band Nine Inch Nails. So this was kind of a no-brainer...
  • Smoke From Down Below by EVE Online
  • 07 Gameboy Tune by F1x
  • Sound Shapes (Beck) by Cities
  • 01 Fable Theme by Nathaniel Olsen
  • Stronghold by Two Mandolins
  • The Makers Theme by Jesper Kyd
  • On Father's Watch by Assassin's Creed Unity
  • Grizzly Hills Soundtrack Music by WoW- Wrath of the Lich King
