The female spirit Ban-shee is best known for its eerie sounding wails, crying in grief of an impending death of someone soon to pass to the other side. A Ban-shee, in some folklore is said to be a bad omen, a sign of forthcoming doom. This spirit is often seen or heard wailing before a tragic death in advance of a soul dying. Although slighting’s date back to the 1400’s in Scotland & Ireland, accounts were also noted in New Orleans & the surrounding areas carrying mystic names such as Irish Shreiker, & Cajun Wind Demon. Ban-shees have been known to travel in the phantom black coach, pulled by headless horses & coachmen. It’s claimed that a Ban-shee can only be controlled by placing a Celtic cross or a four leaf clover above the homes entrance door or under a pillow while sleeping.
