He stood across the tracks from them - the boy with the bandaged eyes, the malevolent-dark mass that baited itself into an approximation of a human person, its expression cartoonish with anguish. The boy stepped closer, smiling - crying, too? - as he raised both hands to shape its face from his memories. And, gradually but suddenly, there really was someone else standing there after all.
