music to cross bridges

Notes

The 90's in and around Los Angeles, in particular on the east & southeast side of the L.A. River home to many confused bi-cultural chicano youth. Growing up listening to both KROQ and Sunday sounds with the family. Sure the streets were our playground, but without the fears of getting stopped in our own neighbourhoods by other youth or the L.A.P.D. neither leading to favourable scenarios. Thankfully a few entrepreneurs offered spaces for expression through word, art and music. Troy Cafe, 50 Buck Gallery, Peace & Justice Center, Aztlan Foundation, Self-Help Graphics, and a few other places that only lasted a short period and are all but a memory. This is a just a very small sampling of that chicano music wave.
