Notes
my city watches over me. her worn pavement stones knit together so that i may find my way home in the dark. her concrete bridges rise and fall like lungs as i pass. i'm held in the embrace of her skyscrapers when i am the only one to look up. when my city was on fire, she used her exhausted breath to sigh against my neck and whisper her apology. the subways are her veins and the trees are her hair, never motionless. i am never alone when my city is with me.
