1985 Festive Fifty

In 1976, BBC Radio One Icon John Peel created a music chart called the Festive Fifty. From 1982 the chart only consisted of the year’s top tracks chosen by the listeners. It would traditionally broadcast over Christmas Eve and Day.

This year was the first Live Aid for Ethiopia, it’s influence is evident in Robert Wyatt charting. More interestingly chart-toppers The Jesus And Mary Chain act as an early precursor of the 90s Brit-Pop genre. It was also the only year where seventy tracks were broadcast. The album cover is from a series entitled "NYC Subway '80s" by Richard Sandler. Some tracks were removed because of 8tracks’ two tracks per artist policy.
