songs for sam-- ones that he already listens to, and ones that he should.

(because there was one time at a panel when someone asked jared about the kind of music sam would be into, and jared said george ezra, and i haven't been able to stop thinking about that since i heard about it)

((cover art done by me + i have no clue who the photographer was for pictures i used for the bottom three panels))

@theghostqueen holy crap that's good. Jared himself has anxiety and damn, he manages well. I say mental illness just comes along for the ride (life) but I also remember that it's a parasite that in some cases can "kill" you. I honestly don't deal with mine very well at all, because I think it'll only get better once it all goes to hell

@deviltrap i used to think that "getting better" meant completely wiping out my mental illness with cognitive therapy and medication, but that's not what it is. there will always be bad times, there will always be lows, and "getting better" means accepting that and learning how to work with it. recovery isn't a lifetime-guaranteed cure, it's about having healthy ways to cope and knowing how to continue functioning during one of the lows.

@theghostqueen it's the mental stuff I relate to and feeling like the black sheep of the family :\ I have ADHD, anxiety, and depression plus I'm not really like the rest of my family

@deviltrap same, i've got mad anxiety (and probably some other undiagnosed stuff tbh). i think mental illness does an awfully good job at creating barriers between people, which is why it's so easy to feel alone or misunderstood. but maybe that's one of the messages sam sends as a character-- that it's okay to struggle with issues of self-worth and autonomy and mental health, and that there ARE people who will support you. at least that's my take on it

@deviltrap relating to sam-centric stuff is always rough because on one hand sam is a precious sunflower and i love him so much, but on the other hand he's also got hELLA mental issues and has made some questionable choices in the past... it's quite the conundrum

@welivewithghosts i'm just imagining him, like. washing dishes in the bunker or folding his laundry and humming the beginning of the song to himself-- the part that goes like "why do you treat me so / well you cause me to weep / and you cause me to mourn / you cause me to pack up my bags and leave home" just quiet and peaceful and lovely and ahhhhhh ahh frick
