Music has often held nations accountable, highlighting hypocrisies and short-comings in order to encourage nations to improve and become their better selves. To confuse criticism as anti-American sentiment is to misunderstand how collective learning and self-improvement works. Not all these songs are "protest songs" by the strict definition. But they all address socially relevant issues, such as warfare, class disparity & poverty, sexism, racism, fundamentalism and crass materialism. Hopefully it's an enjoyable listen.
