she turned the lights off, and opened her window wide in a gesture of welcome. the night breeze tickled her softly, and despite everything, she felt free under this sky. this was a sky unlittered by artificial lamps, instead doused in a handful of sparkling confetti. she reached a hand upward, trying to fit the stars in her hand, but they twinkled, almost as if laughing at her futile attempts. she laughed along, lost in her midnight reverie.
ah, how brightly midnight stars shine.
