Notes
Urban cowboy was the inevitable culmination of the two more popular country genres of the '70s-- polished Nashville country-pop and outlaw country. For the most of the decade, country had been moving closer into the mainstream, with country-pop making inroads on pop radio stations and outlaw singers winning the hearts of rock n roll fans. Urban cowboy fused those two audiences, taking the hooks of country-pop and crossing it with the working class, down-to-earth image of outlaw country.
