In 1950, the City of Las Vegas attempted to annex the lucrative casinos and the rest of the Strip.

Casino executives and organized crime figures targeted the Clark County commissioners, who approved the creation of an unincorporated township which dould not be annexed.

To this day, the University of Nevada-Las Vegas, McCarran Airport and most of the tourist attractions are not actually in Las Vegas.

They are in Paradise.
