A new compilation of some of my recent favorites.

There has been so little released this year that really caught me, it kinda follows that I would put together this collection of 19 temporally thematic songs. Mostly 60s & 70s garage, with a bit of funk to kick off the jams.

I had such a strong affinity for early delta blues, it really took me a while to warm up to post-war rhythm & blues. My natural snobbish instinct was to agree with Son House's rant in 1967's "Festival!" I still do think that he's right. It's not the BLUSE. Call it jump blues if you want, but for so many days, it's what keeps me going.

When Winter hits elsewhere, Fall hits Los Angeles. We fear that it will stay this way, seemingly forgetting that we will likely return to shorts for at least one weekend before Christmas. We yearn for 2 weeks ago with more energy than we dedicate to thinking about 2 weeks from now. Put the future behind us and the past ahead. Stand for nothing, live for me.

I very nearly kept with the themed mixes of vintage tunes, but thought, “No, it’s just not fair to everyone…” There’s still a good serving of old stuff, but hopefully enough things with “2011″ in the year category to make this feel relevant. If you don’t enjoy Paul Brunelle’s take on country, or Opus 3′s cover of Gilbert O’Sullivan’s “Alone Again;” you’re not invited. But for the rest of you, it’s playtime.
