Located by the New York harbor, the Statue of Liberty commemorates the American Declaration of Independence, dedicated by France on October 28, 1886. The Roman goddess of liberty was built in 9 years and was designed by French sculptor Auguste Barthold, comprised of 350 pieces, weighting 450,000+lbs. The 7 spikes in her crown represent the 7 continents and her size 879 sandals are 25’ long. Visitors climb 377 stairs to view the landscape from any of the 25 windows.
