He wondered if she knew of the blood on his hands. Hands that had killed since he was a boy. She was peace; soft and kind. He was war; hardened and angry. But she stayed; smiled her shy smiles, held his hand in hers, smoothed his bushy hair, and pressed kisses to his cheek. The walls he had built over the years were coming down, turning to ash and dust.
