Big Bands were orchestras that played jazz and swing music. They originated in the 20s but became popular during the 30s and especially 40s, when swing became America's mainstream music. A typical big band consisted of reeds(saxophones, clarinets), trombone, trumpet and rhythm sections(bass, piano, drums, sometimes guitar).
