The original War of the Worlds took place in the late 30s. This is based on the concept of the alien invasion taking place, the aliens dying out, and the humans foraging the alien technology to advance humanity. Artificial Intelligence and lifelike machines are invented, but not ten years after the initial war, the tripods reactivate under an alien AI that wants to continue the extermination.

The main character is a wifebot--a female-looking robot designed to keep a home and keep a man company--who is rebooted twenty years after the Resurgence War, with the directive to do housework. Now, she travels an apocalyptic wasteland plagued with survivors and alien machines, looking for her husband to settle down with, but slowly comes to learn that there's more to life than housework.
