Now Entering The Cathode Ray Mission

Notes

((((~))))Brian O'Blivion: The battle for the mind of North America will be fought in the video arena: the Videodrome. The television screen is the retina of the mind's eye. Therefore, the television screen is part of the physical structure of the brain. Therefore, whatever appears on the television screen emerges as raw experience for those who watch it. Therefore, television is reality, and reality is less than television.((((~))))13 transmissions of the Videodrome signal.[TRT:40:42]((((~))))

i love some croneberg and hate some cronenberg. sadly, i've never seen videodrome. gotta fix that. but enjoying the mix so far!

Videodrome is my favorite film of all time. It's a brilliant mind fuck of a movie! What Cronenberg films do you hate, by the way? I may wish to defend them! =)

I hate only 'crash.' and there's no defending that one. I've loved (or lat least really liked) everything else I've seen by him.

Oh man Crash is actually one of my favorites. I even have a poster for it on my wall. I love the book too, but even the author, J.G. Ballard, thinks the movie is better. The score by Howard Shore is hauntingly cold, metallic and beautiful (and my personal favorite score of the 90's). Martin Scorsese ranks Crash as the eighth best film of the 90's. Perhaps I’m a too depraved, but I must speak up for a movie where somebody fucks a wound! But don’t let my feelings on Crash keep you away from Videodrome. =)
I’ll understand if you don’t read this, but here’s an interview with J.G. Ballard regarding the novel and film that you might find interesting (even though you hate the movie): http://www.scribd.com/doc/12697188/Rage-Magazine-Mark-Dery-Interviews-Crash-Author-jg-Ballard

don't get me wrong. I really wanted to like it. I like weird. I like fucked up sex stuff. I like unique story ideas. I liked the production. But I hated every single fucking character and wanted them all to shut up and die immediately.

I actually saw it in the theater when it came out and it was one of only 2 movies that I was so incredibly annoyed with I would have walked out of the theater if I wasn't there with friends. (the other was The Crow 2). That said, I like everything he's done that I've seen. I will take time to check out the article.

Honestly, half the people I know who like Crash don't actually "enjoy" watching it, so I hear ya! I love every second though. =) Lemme know what you think of Videodrome if you get around to watching it!

damn! one of my favorite films just got aurally revisioned. Spectacular Optical Corporation is so on this.

well if you have shirts for 'the brood' or 'rabid' i'd be even more impressed. sad to say i don't even own the vdrome criterion edition. one of those movies imprinted in my memory from countless viewings on cable and vhs. again, a great ode to a great film.
