i don't know if there's more. if there's something beyond this, beyond orion and andromeda and canis minor, but maybe we don't need to know. maybe we can breathe deeply and feel night in our lungs and smell it between us, and that will be enough. that will be everything.

there are thousands of versions of us. of us apart, of us a breath away, of us touching briefly and then never again.

this is the one we got right. but i can't help but mourn the ones we didn't.
