Popularized by Lee Jin Ah in her singles "Yum Yum Yum" and "Random", this trend has been slowly bubbling up from the K-indie scene into mainstream Kpop idol scene for the last few years and (in my hopes and dreams) will soon cross over into English language mainstream pop music... well, a gal can dream, right?
