Brigadier General Cornelius Drago is brought on to solve a series of murders that involve magic, a practice that has been banned in the country for a century. This leads Cornelius and his team to seek the help of the wealthy and mysterious Amarantha Corvi. She is a practitioner of theurgy, a rare and dangerous form of magic that can summon angels, demons, and even gods. In the race to stop the murderer from taking more lives and bringing a powerful demon into their world, Amarantha and Cornelius learn that there is more at play than a killer cult, that they are faced with protecting not only their nation but the very fabric of their reality.
