Thrash Metal is a subgenre of heavy metal characterized by its fast tempo and aggressive style. Lyrical themes in often deal with social issues using direct and inappropriate language. Some bands of Thrash Metal are Anthrax, Slayer, and Metallica, who are credited with creating and popularizing the genre in the early 1980s. Thrash metal saw its birth in the late 1970s when many bands began adopting the aggressive style common to the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, and eventually becoming a separate movement in the early 1980s as a reaction to the popular Glam Metal bands.
