UPDATE: We do have a completely new campaign set up over here! Weve heard from people only at that fundraising site AND their payment processor and gotten their blessing, so it obviously CAN be sorted out.
Cofounder and CEO of Crowdtilt here. Happy to help and pitch in. Jamesb @Crowdtilt.com is my email in case anything is available. Cannot imagine the amt of stress and uncertainty you guys are going through, glad we may help remove one concern (credit card processing and fundraising).
We adore you CrowdTilt! Send them love on Twitter and on Facebook!
WePay has responded (summary: two porn studios offered perks on their own, and he or she was removed for that) and now wants to help restart her campaign! Theyve reached to be able to her to go over it. How kind associated with these. Too bad she couldnt respond because she was the actual world ER.
I wrote earlier about Eden Alexanders fundraiser, throughout she was trying boost funds to get the medical care she craves while also paying watch. After having a step to a prescription drug, and misdiagnosed care, by the time she created a fundraiser she was in pretty dire need and asked several friends for help creating and orchestrating the campaign, including me.
She used GiveForward, an application that friend Eric Cash recommended as it had been instrumental in raising funds for his wife, Hollie Stephens, an adult performer who died of breast cancer at 30 in next year. They also helped performer Cameron Bay raise funds for HIV treatment with issues, as well they should preferably. Cause thats what perform when shit hits the fan  we fundraise to help, especially since adult performers often shunned by charities.
And hell, while its disgusting, payment processor WePay initially funded a revenge porn site, leaving it up until publicly shamed for it, so surely they werent going to take some kind of moral high ground? Right?
Heres the words of the fundraising page, taken from Google Cache:
As you can see, challenging mention anything about Edens work. Have been no perks offered, no dirty image samples. Just a woman in trouble, unable to work since sudden, undiagnosed and dehabilitating illness rrncluding a sudden change of circumstances at your house.
Lets take a look at WePays Relation to its Service, shall we? Ive written concerning it (and Paypal) before. Heres the bit they decided Eden was on incorrect side of:
According for the message WePay sent to Eden, this particular the area she disregarded. Not by raising money FOR porn, but by being a cam girl at all.
What WePay (and therefore GiveForward) is effectively saying is that because Eden is a cam girl by profession, raising money for medical funds is suspicious and banned. Because we are all aware sex workers cant be trusted, and well probably blow our money on porn compared to self care, and we all have robot bodies that never get ill, right?
However, and heres where Im really, really fucking angry, heres some other areas they prohibition.
Oh yeah, WePay? Like revealing the evils in the homosexual aim? How about going to other countries to spread imperialist Christianity among communities of colour? AWESOME SO GLAD YOU FUND THAT
Yeah cool so youre totally not helping fund love donations for psychic readings. Cause science has totally explained that.
But youll totally help people pay a visit to fat camp, or get post-weight loss surgeries. Whether or not its someone raising money for their partner because hes decided shes too fat.
If they seriously ban everyone that ever worked retail by using WePay, Ill eat my hat. Not for selling the products through WePay, but ever selling licensed products ever.
Thats the problem, understand. I get that theyre trying to cover their asses, but topic consistent, this not rational. So if covering their asses could be the goal, theyre doing a bad job. Instead, it comes off as moralistic judgment calls that make certain sex workers and escorts are trapped, unable to get help with regards to their rent, medical care, one more needs outside of the adult industry they be employed in. Basically, WePay was an idea spawned to invest in a bachelor party without any a hired stripper needs to raise money for medical care, shes shit out of luck.
And the fact is? Theres not another option for us to arrive at. Were wanting to raise money for Eden so that she does not have to cam while horribly sick. We cant use PayPal or WePay, and quite alternate payment processors have vague relation to what constitutes adult services or porno. Because Eden is a cam girl, I guess she doesnt deserve fundraising events. And thus we see where the anti-porn arguments ultimately fuck us over because society makes damn certain that once a sex worker, always a sex wood worker.
Eden was hospitalized today and happens to be being cared for, but she for being in crisis, chronic pain, and having difficulties. And its notable to me that other sex workers were the core of her support networking system. The fact is, being a sex worker could mean more resources are restrict for they. Services meant to help you instead turn to be able to be frauds. You can lose your job, your home, your children, your privacy, because were a sex employee. I am hard pressed to developed a sex worker who isnt dealing having a sense of instability and anxiety about being seen and losing everything. The actual most privileged among us are still at great risk. Were all drowning, and yet were all the only ones willing to control each other a floatation raft of exhausted people, paddling as well as they can, knowing the ocean is vast and also becoming colder every minute, but theres no rescue boat coming. And knowing at the same time that our profession demands that we smile and pretend all things are great, because otherwise the sharks (the media, anti-porn feminists, religious nutcases) will devour everyone.
I think the need to say that we need to make sure to undertake each other when we *arent* in crisis. Isolation makes minor setbacks into severe frustration. Too often Ive found myself overwhelmed when battling suicidal feelings, but radio silence once i start to get a handle attached to it. I know that I, too, focus read more about people when theyre their particular lowest points, and forget to post disaster when theyve got their head above liquids. Creating systems of sustainable care are necessary for our community to survive. We dont have to live our lives paddling water.
In this case, there no pornographic content, no perks, no lingering on his or her adult industry, yet it was made by shut down anyway. Individuals have had their payments pulled from under them for finding yourself in the legal adult industry, including me with PayPal. It shouldnt matter, though, whether you mention being porn performer or not, whether youre a legal sex worker or not. You should be able to other people if elements it, regarding needing to have more dangerous sex work or endanger yourself to live because you cannot raise money any other way. Which usually is some fucked up bullshit and we will have to speak out against it, to really fight this fact. Its discrimination against marginalized people and we need to do something about it.
Theres huge flurry of activity on Twitter regarding this right at this instant. I recommend sending tweets to @WePay and @billclerico, the cofounder and CEO for this company. Molly Crabapple, Patton Oswalt, Neil Gaiman, and Wil Wheaton have tweeted about this among still others. Twitter not your thing? Can perform email them at legal@wepay.com, call them at 1-855-GO-WEPAY (their offices are closed this weekend, so start Monday) or write to them/protest in person:
WePay, Corporation.
380 Portage Ave
Palo Alto, CA, 94306
Theres lots of eyes regarding this situation, and its not great PR for the payment processor. Itll also be excellent PR for the company who steps up while to process the donations that consumers are eager to provide.
This decent time to step forward and be that payment processor, by the way.
