By the 50s, the energy and tension of bebop was replaced with calm, smooth sounds of cool jazz which favored long, linear melodic lines. With their classical training and advanced knowledge of theory and composition, they made valuable contributions to cool jazz. Many of the players looked more like engineers than musicians but instead of a slide rule for doing trigonometric functions, they carried saxophones and other instruments for swinging! Enjoy these cool pioneers!
