When I first purchased kosher rock salt, my thoughts were not as much about the taste of the product as much as its marketability. My basic concern was whether it would be of any use to me in the future, but I had no idea of the practical use of kosher rock salt. You see, I only use it in the kitchen and even now I am constantly trying to find new uses for this essential commodity.

When you think of salt, the only thing that comes to mind is table salt. Yes, there are varieties of other salts such as sea salt, sweet and salt iodized or sea salt, uniodized and others, but table salt is the one we most likely have in our kitchen. Well, I can honestly say that I wouldn't know where to begin if I wanted to discover another use for salt, much less one that is so widely used in the food industry.

One thing I have noticed about kosher rock salt is that it's essentially all around us. From our cleaning products to our dairy products to our salt and other cooking ingredients, we have everything we need to use kosher rock salt on a daily basis. I cannot tell you how many times I see "table salt" on food labels and wonder how anyone could eat that. However, because most people don't really understand the importance of using salt properly, they tend to get salt confused with table salt.

This doesn't mean that you can't do a fair amount of research about using kosher salt as a cooking ingredient. It just means that you must keep your options open. If you don't want to purchase salt, then buy table salt instead. However, if you want to be able to do some research on kosher salt, then be sure to get the real deal.

All kosher rock salt will be kosher under Jewish law. So, if you buy a product from one of these kosher salt companies, the salt is kosher. Since so many companies have already put their stamp of approval on this particular salt, there is no problem there.

Most of the kosher rock salt available today is made from naturally occurring rock salt deposits. For those who don't know, those are just rocks found on the ocean floor that have become magnetized by seawater and then sluiced out to the surface.

Many years ago, most of the salt that we had access to was mined from deep beneath the ocean. In this case, the rock salt that you see on grocery store shelves today was used in the process of mining salt.

These days, the process of salt mining has become much more mechanized and so modern salt production involves the use of machines and robotic machinery to reach a final product that has been used for centuries. Kosher rock salt that is made this way is available in many flavors, so the mix makers can even choose to use those. As far as what flavors you choose, that will be entirely up to you.

It is important to realize that rock salt is made from crushed rock salt, not sea salt or other type of salt found in sea water. Those products are not kosher; this should be pointed out if you do not want to use them.

In order to use kosher rock salt, you will have to do a bit of digging.  black truffle salt 's not like table salt or sea salt that you can just pour into a jar and stick in the refrigerator. Unless you live near the ocean, chances are you won't find kosher rock salt anywhere near the sea.

As I stated earlier, there are several kosher rock salt manufacturers on the market, so it's up to you to find one that suits your needs. The companies that produce the salt should also be able to provide you with information about the salt itself and about the company in general.
