She rode atop the giant wolf, gripping his fur tight and burying her face from the wind as she fought to stay conscious. Ice flew as he hurtled deep into the frigid night.
Finally, they reached a thermal pool and he lowered her in and steadied her above the water. The girl pulled him by his neck into the shallows and held herself upright against his massive form. They would spend the long night together there, hidden.
In the meantime, he watched silently and relieved as her body and mind warmed, healing. He would warm her with his own body against the frigid air if he had to. He would keep her safe and far from harm, no matter what. Devotion, loyalty, and an aching passion - she was his world.
She was a priestess, and he was hers.
