Nudist Movement And Nude Activists:
That is the motto of a potential movement calling out from a time when the bond of men in brotherhood was understood as the foundation for "la communauty." Yet, in this second, it's presented with a twist on the revolution that it calls to mind. This time let it be a naturist revolution lead by naked activists.

Several years back this was one of the faux slogans marched down 5th Avenue in NYC by the men of Males Au Natural (GUY) for the annual Pride festivities back in 2007. Yet those men were not nude: their crotches and buttocks were strategically covered by smaller signs with shorter slogans like "NUDE RIGHTS NOW" & "this crack do not kill."
But why use faux slogans? Why are  naturism  considered a performance costume any more than a call to action? In reality the line separating the operation in the motto may just be semantic, yet the guys of MAN are barely a politically charged lot.

Since the rise of modern society, public nudism continues to be the center of its own civil rights tug-of-war.
In Europe, it is more a matter of societal convention & propriety. In parts of Asia, it is a practice deemed entirely prohibited & severely punished.
Yet, with the entrance of 2012, we see the rise of the [virtual] nudist community and a determination to win the fights for more body independence. These are cause for a palpable urgency.

The urgency itself may be a matter of simple perception - seeing new social organizations and internet communities propagate, old groups have responded in some instances as if endangered for his or her very existence. Recent upgrades to nudity laws in my personal home city of New York almost contained language that would have outlawed social nudism of all kinds. While 2011 saw serious soul-searching in Vermont and San Francisco as anti-nudity laws were debated and almost enacted.
Despite the landmark case in NYC where Spencer Tunick established a state constitutional right to get together naked people in public places predicated on our freedom of expression, artists making unclothed art is public must expect harassment and arrest.
With economics as they're, community established naturist clubs are under extreme pressures to keep their membership numbers stable, while the series of these family owned businesses is barely guaranteed.
The fact of the matter remains that exercising our rights as naturists is not quite as easy as the innocence of teen skinny dipping. The political consequences - whether it's a issue of our neighbors understanding that we're amusing tonight, or the intricacies of local law & it is possible enforcement - make being a naturist no small personal statement.
