After a failed suicide attempt goes unnoticed by her family, amateur photographer Bonnie decides to spend the summer with her half uncle in southern Arkansas. She finds inspiration in the Gothic ache of small churches and overgrown vegetation, and one particularly creepy looking scarecrow out in the fields, but when misfortune strikes the town and people end up dying in various accidents, the local rumor of a curse cast by one of Bonnie's ancestors seems a bit too real to her.
