Quadrille is a historic dance performed by four couples in a rectangular formation, and a precursor to traditional square dancing. The quadrille included gavottes, rigaudons, pantalons, etes, pastourelles, and finales. Four or more couples danced to the quadrille and the music was adapted for popular tunes, operatic music, and church music as well.
